Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the Jordan National Competitiveness Team Website. We are honored to have you with us. The JNCT website is a new initiative aimed to make the Team's work more public, and spread awareness of the competitiveness issue in Jordan, and internationally.

Competitiveness is the key word in economic development today. If a developing nation, such as Jordan, is to succeed, and move from being a factor-driven to an investment-driven, and ultimately an innovation-driven economy, it will be through unleashing the productive capacity of Jordanian industries.

The world economy has entered a new era of competition. Traditional barriers have begun to fall, new sophisticated competitors have emerged, and global rivalry is the new accepted norm. Around the world, countries are realizing that traditional sources of comparative advantage are actually less valuable than initially perceived for the development of a strong, competitive economy.

The new emerging development paradigm is one that involves the entire market and every economic institution. Productivity is the measure of success in today's market – the component which creates a competitive advantage rather than a comparative advantage - the latter addresses only the supply side of the market system and ignores demand, historical chance and the role of the government. Indeed, the model of competitive advantage addresses the very question of development today.

The Team works hard to establish a competitive environment in which Jordanian firms can succeed. The cluster studies undertaken by the JNCT help establish intra-industry cooperation. The public-private workshops held by the Team help instate policies that are favorable to Jordan's industrial success.

The Team's work has now begun to focus on microeconomic reform. One of the Team's latest initiatives concentrates on translating the idea of competitiveness from an industrial setting to a regional setting, and it has undertaken the task of helping to develop the twelve governorates around Jordan.

We'd love to hear from you with any suggestions or comments you might have on the Team's work. Please feel free to contact us.

Best Regards,
Naseem Rahahleh
